The vibrant spirit of junior football was on full display at the opening tournament of the Chitungwiza Junior Football Development League’s Under 14 season.

Excellence Academy of St Mary emerged victorious after a nail-biting penalty shootout against Ruponeso, following a goalless draw in the final match.

The tournament, which showcased the immense talent within the Chitungwiza community, culminated in a dramatic finale. Ruponeso and Excellence Academy battled fiercely, but neither side could break the deadlock during regulation time, forcing the match to penalties. Excellence Academy held their nerve, converting four spot-kicks while Ruponeso managed only one, securing a 4-1 victory.

The event was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including ZIFA Technical Director, Mr. Jethro Hunhidzarira, and ZIFA Board Member, Mr. Tafadzwa Bedza, who witnessed the promising talent on display.

Individual brilliance was also recognized, with the following players and coaches receiving prestigious awards:

  • Golden Glove: Aaron Chimombe (Ruponeso)
  • Player of the Tournament: Nigel Ruzungunde (Excellence Academy)
  • Top Goal Scorer: Denzel Chisora (Marisa Academy)
  • Best Midfielder: Munashe Mapfumo
  • Coach of the Tournament: Mr. Peter Nyamhandu (Excellence Academy)

  • Excellence 2 – 0 Ramah
    Third/Fourth Play Off:
  • Marisa 0-0 Ramah (Ramah won 4-2 on penalties)
    Final:
  • Ruponeso 0 – 0 Excellence (Excellence won 4-1 on penalties)
