Chitungwiza Municipality employee Edmund Munyukwi, popularly known as Sensei Tatsi, is gearing up for a major milestone in his karate journey as he prepares to compete in a prestigious tournament in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, on December 7, 2024. The karateka, who has held a black belt for several years, aims to upgrade to the coveted fourth dan rank, known as Yondan or Peaceful Mind Four. Achieving this level will require him to battle 40 men in Kumite, a grueling test of strength, skill, and endurance.
Munyukwi has been training intensively for the event, despite significant challenges. “I am confident that I have what it takes to upgrade to fourth dan, and I have been working on my techniques to be ready for the challenge,” he said in an interview. However, his journey has not been without hurdles, particularly the lack of funding for travel and accommodation. “The biggest hurdle I am encountering is a lack of sponsorship to cover travel expenses,” he noted. Despite these challenges, Munyukwi remains determined to achieve his goal and further his career in karate.
