The Chitungwiza Junior Cricket League concluded its 2024 season with an electrifying finals day held at St Aidens in Chitungwiza. The six-team league showcased remarkable talent and sportsmanship, cementing its reputation as a nurturing ground for future cricket stars.
In the Third and Fourth playoff match, Zengeza 4 triumphed over Chinembiri, securing third place in the league. The grand final saw St Aidens dominate Dudzai, clinching the championship title with a commanding 10-wicket victory.
The day’s standout performer, Courage Mujuru, was named Player of the Tournament for his stellar performance, scoring 17 runs and taking 4 wickets in the finals.
The league’s partnership with the Rockingham Colliery Cricket Club from the United Kingdom added an international flair to the event. Representatives from the UK-based club were present, and all six teams received an assortment of cricket equipment sponsored by the club. This partnership is set to benefit Chitungwiza’s young cricketers further, offering scholarships to study at Churchill High School.
The finals were graced by Zimbabwe national team stars Tony Munyonga and Wesly Madhevere, whose presence inspired the young cricketers.
