
Harare– In a thrilling finale, Seke 1 High School emerged victorious in the Young and Great Under 20 Anti-Drug and Substance Abuse Tournament, edging Dzivarasekwa 1-0. This year’s tournament, held at Oriel Boys High, saw an impressive total of 68 teams from seven districts in Harare competing for the coveted title.
Seke 1 High’s triumph marks a significant achievement for the school and the Chitungwiza community, especially after finishing as runners-up in last year’s competition. The team’s determination and skill were on full display throughout the tournament, culminating in a hard-fought victory in the final match.
The school did not only triumphed as champions but also earned individual accolades, with Tatenda Mherekumombe named Player of the Tournament and Munashe Kamupita recognized as Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Their outstanding performances were a testament to their skill and determination, inspiring their peers and the community to prioritize sports and discourage substance abuse.
The event was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including the Guest of Honor, Deputy Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, Hon. Emily Jesaya. Her attendance underscored the importance of the tournament in promoting awareness and combating drug and substance abuse among the youth.

Notable figures from the world of sports and business were also present, including prominent businessman Mr. Mashamhanda (Mashwede), Mwos Coach Mr. Lloyd Mutasa, former players Clayton Munemo and Eliot Matsika, ZIFA Technical Director Mr. Hunidzarira, and Talent Identification Officer Mr. Jacob Chavhungama. The Under 20 National Team Coach, Mr. Taruvinga, was also in attendance, emphasizing the tournament’s role in scouting potential talent for national representation.
The recent success of Seke 1 High School’s under-20 soccer team can be significantly attributed to their fruitful partnership with CSPRO Academy, a community-based initiative.This collaboration has proven to be a vital catalyst, providing the school’s athletes with enhanced training, strategic development, and crucial support. The tournament was organised by the Ministry of Sport, National Association of School Heads (NASH) and a partner Young and Great, an organisation that was founded by Tanaka Mashamhanda, with Mashwede Holdings coming in as principal sponsors.
