The local football community in Chitungwiza is buzzing with excitement following the selection of Takudzwa Darkeni, affectionately known as “Zhano,” to represent the Zimbabwe Under-17 Football National Team.

A talented Form Four student at Seke 1 High School and a standout player for CSPRO Academy, Takudzwa will don the national colors at the prestigious Africa Union Sports Council Region 5 (AUSC Region 5) Games, set to take place in Namibia from July 4th to 13th, 2025.

Takudzwa’s call-up is a testament to his dedication and skill, and a huge boost for CSPRO Academy, an affiliate of the Chitungwiza Junior Football Development League. CSPRO Academy boasts an impressive lineage, having been founded by former Warriors defender Costa Nhamoinesu and currently coached by former CAPS United forward Massert Zengeni. Zhano’s consistent performance has long marked him as one of the academy’s brightest prospects.

The selection of a local talent like Takudzwa is expected to serve as a significant source of motivation for other aspiring young footballers within the Chitungwiza community. It underscores the vital role played by the Chitungwiza Junior Football Development League, which is rapidly proving itself to be a vibrant and effective platform for nurturing and developing young talent at the grassroots level.

Mr. L. Manhombo, the enthusiastic Chairperson of the Chitungwiza Junior Football Development League, expressed immense pride in Takudzwa’s achievement. ” We are greatly excited by the selection of Takudzwa in the Under-17 national team ” Mr. Manhombo stated. “This truly shows that our league is a good platform for grassroots soccer development.”

As Takudzwa prepares to represent his country on an international stage, the entire Chitungwiza community will be rallying behind “Zhano” and the Zimbabwe Under-17 squad, hopeful for a successful campaign in Namibia. His journey serves as an inspiring example of how dedication, coupled with strong local development initiatives, can pave the way for young athletes to achieve their dreams.
