Marisa Academy, a proud affiliate of the Chitungwiza Junior Football Development League (CJFDL), has embarked on an ambitious project to transform the soccer field at Mhuriimwe Secondary School.

The initiative will see the grounds cleared and a new lawn laid, promising to significantly benefit not only the academy but also school teams and the wider community.

The current state of the field has posed challenges for players, hindering both training and match play. Recognizing the need for a quality playing surface, Marisa Academy stepped up to spearhead the revitalization effort.

This undertaking underscores the academy’s commitment to developing young talent and promoting the growth of football within Chitungwiza.

“We believe that providing access to quality sporting facilities is crucial for nurturing the skills and passion of young footballers,” said Mr Tapfuma Makufa, the Chairperson of Marisa Academy. ” We are excited to partner with the school and we applaud Chitungwiza Municipality for coming on board to assist us with the transformation of the field.

The project involves a comprehensive overhaul of the existing field. Firstly, the grounds will be thoroughly cleared of any debris and overgrown vegetation. Following this, the focus will shift to laying a brand new lawn ensuring a smooth and consistent playing surface for all users.

The new field is expected to improve the quality of play, reduce the risk of injuries, and create a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Mhuriimwe Secondary School officials expressed their gratitude for Marisa Academy’s initiative. The improved soccer field will not only enhance the school’s sporting programs but also provide a safe and enjoyable space for the community to come together.”

The CJFDL also commended Marisa Academy for their proactive approach

“Marisa Academy’s commitment to improving infrastructure is commendable and aligns perfectly with the CJFDL’s mission to develop football at the grassroots level. We are proud to have them as an affiliate, said Mr Alex Masisimani, CJFDL Technical Director.

The project is expected to be completed before the start of CJFDL 2025 season. This collaborative effort will ensure the long-term sustainability of the project and further contribute to the growth of football in Chitungwiza.
